Oil paint stick, oil, and Sharpie on raw canvas
24 × 36 in
C1 is a painting about containment rather than expression. Layers accumulate without resolving into a single image, holding multiple gestures, colors, and impulses in suspension. Marks emerge, overlap, and recede, resisting hierarchy or narrative.
The raw canvas remains exposed, not as absence, but as pressure—space that absorbs and restrains what is placed upon it. Color is buried rather than displayed. Line appears and withdraws. Nothing fully declares itself.
This work is not intended to illustrate an idea or arrive at a conclusion. It exists as a record of compression: a moment where everything was held, and nothing was allowed to dominate.
C1 stands as a finished condition, not an unfinished question.
