"Politics" compresses childhood, authority, and public speech into a single unstable image. A child’s raised hand—hovering between innocence and defiance—overlaps with an adult face caught mid-shout, while a clipped declaration (“Politics must not be blind to the facts of life”) floats uneasily between them. The work stages politics not as ideology alone, but as something embodied, inherited, and rehearsed long before it is consciously chosen.
Created early in the artist’s practice, Politics reflects an emerging concern with how power and belief are transmitted through images, gestures, and voices. Rather than argue a position, the work reveals politics as a formative condition—absorbed before language, before consent, and before understanding.
